Desires

The fewer the desires, the lesser shall be our miseries. But to become desireless is another problem. Desires form a network which we are entangled in. The more we try to get rid of it, the tighter become the fibres of the net. The only way to free ourselves from the entanglements is to divert our attention from them and fix our eyes on the very Real thing. If we cultivate a habit of remaining unmindful of them, they will soon begin to disappear from our view, and consequently our miseries will be minimised.

"Voir"

Pain

Master [Babuji]: "It is not necessary [to have pain to get closer to God]. My Master [Lalaji] used to suffer from great pain. He had abscess of the liver and used to suffer very much. But when he was in very great pain he used to sing! I asked him why. He told me that when a person is in great pain, he has to groan or make some such noise, and so why not sing and make noise? My Master [Rev. Lalaji] once told me that he could easily have removed this trouble in one minute. But he did not do so, because he felt the pain was given by God, and who knows why God has given it! He felt there must be some reason for it! So that was my Master's [Rev. Lalaji] submission to Divine Will!"

Obey the scriptures until you are strong enough to do without them; then go beyond them. Book are not an end-all. Verification is the only proof of religious truth. Each must verify for himself. No teacher who says, "I have seen, but you cannot," is to be trusted. Trust only the one who says, "You can see too."

Our tendencies are the result of past conscious actions. A child is born with certain tendencies. Whence do they come? No child is born with a tabula rasa--with a clean, blank page--of a mind. The page has been written on previously. The old Greek and Egyptian philosophers taught that no child came with a vacant mind. Each child comes with a hundred tendencies generated by past conscious actions. The child did not acquire these in this life, and we are bound to admit that it must have acquired them in past lives.

Morality

Babuji sort of symbolized in one short sencentce, summarized in one sentence: When you leave this world, leave it a better place than you found it when you came in. If you cannot do that, at least leave it as good as you found it when you came. That is, to my mind, the most concise form of defining either ethics or morality.

Consultez votre coeur

Sparks of the Divine

Doing good means to be human, understanding that the human is a part of the Divine, is a spark of the Divine. We are not gods but we are sparks from God. We are not the whole fire but we are sparks of the fire. It has every quality, or rather, it must have every quality that He has. And what are those qualities? God is love. First and foremost – without the need to say a second thing –God is love. Are we?

Alimentația corectă
vineri 9 ianuarie 2015

Thinkers in ancient India gradually came to understand that the idea of separateness was erroneous, that there was a connection among all apparently distinct objects--there was a unity pervading the whole universe--trees, shrubs, animals, human beings, celestial beings, even God himself. Reaching the climax in this line of thought, the Advaitin declared all to be but the manifestation of the One.

Transformarea

Do you ask anything from your children in return for what you have given them? It is your duty to work for them, and there the matter ends. In whatever you do for a particular person, a city, or a state, assume the same attitude towards it as you have towards your children--expect nothing in return.
If you can invariably take the position of a giver, in which everything given by you is a free offering to the world, without any thought of return, then will your work bring you no attachment. Attachment comes only when we expect a return.
Class on Karma Yoga. New York, December 20, 1895. Complete Works, 1. 59.- Vivekananda

If working like slaves results in selfishness and attachment, working as master of our own mind gives rise to the bliss of non-attachment.

Class on Karma Yoga. New York.December 20, 1895. Complete Works, 1. 59.- Vivekananda

To attain true non-attachment is almost a lifework, but as soon as we have reached this point, we have attained the goal of love and become free. The bondage of nature falls from us, and we see nature as she is; she forges no more chains for us; we stand entirely free and take not the results of work into consideration. Who then cares for what the results may be?

Firm Will

Sunday, January 4, 2015
"Generally people go hesitatingly towards God, thinking themselves to be too incapable and weak to achieve the real thing. A powerful will, made at the very first step and maintained all through, shall never fail to achieve complete success. Half the distance is crossed if a man enters the field with a firm mind. Difficulties and dejections will melt away at a mere glance, and the path of success will be made smooth. Indecisive attitude leads to half-hearted efforts and generally results in mere partial success or, more often, in failure. Our firm will enables us automatically to draw in power from unknown sources for the accomplishment of the task."

Be sincere and do your duty. Everything will come all right. Truth must triumph.
From USA: December 26, 1894. Letter to Alasinga. Complete Works, 5 .55.- Vivekananda

God is unattached because he loves. That real love makes us unattached. Wherever there is attachment, the clinging to the things of the world, you must know that it is all physical attraction between sets of particles of matter--something that attracts two bodies nearer and nearer all the time and, if they cannot get near enough, produces pain. But where there is real love, it does not rest on physical attachment at all. Such lovers may be a thousand miles away from one another, but their love will be all the same; it does not die, and will never produce any painful reaction.

Ancient Sages

"If we go through the history of ancient sages, we find that they had sacrificed all the comforts of life for the sake of attaining Reality. They led a life of austerity and penance, undergoing every kind of hardship and trouble for the sake of the object so dear to their heart. Intense longing for the goal made them blind to everything else and they remained firm on the path, not minding the difficulties and reverses that came across their way. "

Iubirea
